Balayage is the most asked-for hair service where our stylists select pieces of the hair to paint free-hand creating a more natural, “barely noticeable” blond look, rather than using the traditional foiling highlighting technique. Balayage means ‘sweeping’ in French & it is coloring technique that was developed in the 1970s. Balayage can be used in even the shortest pixie crop, however the best results is in hair below the shoulders.

You may be asking yourself “what’s the fascination with getting a Balayage”? Well, you can achieve many different effects from soft, natural highlights to something strong and highly defined. In other words, the look is very sleek, modern and effortless. It is also very low maintenance and an affordable way to color your hair as you never have a solid demarcation line or regrowth.

In order to create the best balayage, we only use L’Oréal’s Blond Studio portfolio that “sets the new professional standard in lightening while respecting the condition of the hair”. Also, we use L’Oréal’s Smartbond in situations where the hair fiber need extra protection. It’s the “perfect complement to our color & lighteners and protects & strengthens the hair during the technical service.”

`Balayage’ Frequently Asked Questions:

Is ombré the same as balayage?

No, Ombré is not the same as a Balayage. Ombré is a French word, which means "shadow" & it's a process that dyes the hair in a gradation from dark to light. The outcome is usually darker hair from the roots to the mid-shaft and a transition to a lighter color from the mid-shaft through to the ends. With this technique, there are no darker pieces left at the bottom of the hair. It is noticeable color blocking from dark to light, with a smooth transition in between. This technique is meant to look like the hair has been dip-dyed.

what is the difference between balayage and highlights?

Highlights (full / partial) involves lighting the hair in each section to achieve a consistent blond look. Balayage is a specific hi-lighting technique where the color is painted by hand, therefore the highlights are less consistent, resulting in a softer progression of the dye, leaving a natural multi-toned color.

is bleach used for balayage?

Yes. Bleach must be used to achieve a Balayage look. At Inscape we use L’Oréal’s Blond Studio Multi-Techniques Powder to achieve the most creative and sleek results.

Why is balayage more expensive?

Creating the perfect balayage takes more time than doing traditional highlights; therefore pricing is higher for the products utilized and time spent producing the entire look.

Will balayage cover grey hair?

Yes, balayage can be used to cover grey hair. It will add dimension and contrast without a full color job.

is balayage easy to maintain?

Yes, because balayage has no harsh demarcation lines it grows out easily and beautifully, without the need for regular salon touch-ups. If you are a first-timer, you may require 2-3 salon visits to build up the color, as lightening the hair drastically in one sitting can be damaging; therefore you can expect to visit your hair colorist every 6 weeks during this time. Once you've achieved that perfect shade, you can go up to 4 months until your next balayage appointment, only visiting your hair colorist in between for a gloss or treatment to freshen up the color.

is balayage healthier for your hair?

In order to have a successful balayage look maintaining the integrity of your hair without incurring any damage, it is important to see an expert hair colorist that can use professional, salon-only hair color products. At Inscape Beauty Salon, our goal is to achieve your desired look using the latest techniques & high-quality products without jeopardizing the health of your hair.
